Coors and Agencies Help 25,000 Local California Families With Holiday Food Program
Navidad en el Barrio Increases Nutritional Value of Holiday Food Baskets for Families in LA and San Diego
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, over 5 million people in California suffer from hunger or are at risk of hunger. On December 16, 2006, Coors Brewing Company (NYSE: TAP)(TSX: TAP) helps Navidad en el Barrio address this problem as the LA-based organization distributes food baskets to 30,000 families who live at or below the poverty level in LA and San Diego. This year, Navidad en el Barrio focused on enhancing the food baskets’ nutritional content.
“With so many health issues in our community, we feel it is our responsibility to provide a balanced meal. We will include an educational element to the food baskets as well,” said John Olvera, chair of the board for Navidad en el Barrio. “We are proud to be working with the Coors Brewing Company and our network of agencies to achieve our goals for this year.”
Coors will donate $1 to Navidad en el Barrio for each 20-pack case sold in participating retailers from Nov. 16 through Dec. 31. Coors donated $45,000 to the organization earlier this year.
Coors and its distributors will provide company volunteers to sort the food, distribution trucks and drivers for delivery. Participating distributors include: Crest Beverage of San Diego and LA-area distributors Mission Beverage, Classic Distributing, Harbor Distributing, Premium Distributing, Allied Distributing, Basso Distributing and Central Coast Distributing.
“The partnership with Navidad en el Barrio has become a holiday tradition for Coors,” said Pablo Guzman, vice president of U.S. Hispanic sales for Coors. “This program has a direct and positive impact on the Hispanic community in southern California and Coors is proud to be a part of it.”

It started as one person’s hope of making Christmas brighter for needy families in the Hispanic community of East LA. Thirty-four years later, with help from an impressive network of non-profit organizations, Navidad en el Barrio provides meals to over 30,000 needy households from Santa Maria to San Diego. To date, Navidad en el Barrio has provided support to more than 685,000 families. For more information, visit www.navidadenelbarrio.com.
