Appellation's First Tasting Room & Winery in Three Years Breaks Ground
The first commercial tasting room and winery to be built in Anderson Valley in three years just broke ground. Foursight wines began construction this month on a modest, 1,600-square foot tasting room and winery building located just south of downtown Boonville.
The last winery and tasting room to be built in Anderson Valley was in 2005 and was located in between Boonville and Philo. Previous to that, it had been 12 years since a new tasting room had been constructed in this cool-climate, Mendocino County appellation.
The Foursight tasting room and winery should be completed by May 2009 and marks a new wave of wineries to locate near downtown Boonville. In the next year, two other established Anderson Valley brands will be establishing tasting rooms near or in the town center.
The Foursight tasting room is being built from lumber reclaimed from the family's days in the timber business. Wood used in the Charles Lumber Company site in the 1950s and 1960s are now being recycled into the symbol of the family's new beginning in the wine business. The roof has also been engineered to support the installation of solar panels.
Next summer, Co-Owner Kristy Charles and her fiancé, Foursight Winemaker Joe Webb, will hold their wedding reception at the site.
