Tyler Colman to Address CAWG 2009 Annual Meeting

CAWG180-w.JPGRenowned wine speaker and author Tyler Colman will be the guest lecturer at the 35th Annual Meeting of the California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, in Sacramento, California.

Colman is the author and creator of Dr.Vino.com, a blog dedicated to the discussion of wine. The lively blog has garnered numerous awards and a wide following since its beginnings in 2002. As the blog’s host, Colman offers independent wine recommendations, lighthearted commentary and wine maps, while encouraging interaction through such features as his “impossible food-wine pairings.”

Colman’s blog won the best wine blog and the best wine blog writing awards at the 2007 American Wine Blog Awards. Dr.Vino.com was also nominated for the James Beard award for best “Website Focusing on Food, Beverage, Restaurant or Nutrition” in 2007.

It's an exciting time to grow wine grapes, make wine and be a wine consumer right now in America,” Colman said. “I am honored to be able to discuss the tremendous opportunities involving wine at the CAWG Annual meeting.”

Colman’s expertise in wine goes far beyond his Web site. He received his doctorate from Northwestern University and wrote his doctoral dissertation on the political economy of the wine sector in France and America. This past July, the University of California Press published his book, Wine Politics: How Governments, Environmentalists, Mobsters and Critics Influence the Wines We Drink. In addition, his writing has appeared in The New York Times, Food & Wine, Wine & Spirits, Wine Business Monthly and the Chicago Tribune, and has provided commentary in many national news outlets, including; Reuters, Bloomberg, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, Sports Illustrated, ABC News Now and NPR. Colman also teaches wine classes at New York University and the University of Chicago.

CAWG represents the growers of more than 50 percent of the gross grape tonnage crushed for wine and concentrate in California. The statewide association provides industry leadership to advocate public policies, research and education programs, and trade positions to enhance the business of growing California winegrapes.
