Peju Province Winery Releases Cabernet Sauvignon and 2005 Napa Valley Merlot
The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines are produced using fruit from the Peju family’s two estate vineyards: the organically grown 30-acre Rutherford Vineyard and sustainably farmed 350-acre Persephone Vineyard.
While the Rutherford Vineyard is exclusively planted to Bordeaux varietals, the Persephone Vineyard has 120 acres planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Syrah and Zinfandel in addition to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
Peju Wines show pronounce fruit, intensity, wonderful spice, sweet oak and supple tannin characteristics, moderately warm. These wine finish, rich and fruit laden--nicely balanced–truly well made wines.
The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon was hand-selected, spent extended maceration time on the skins, and was aged 18 months in 40% new French and American oak. Peju’s 2004 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon received ‘Gold’ recognition at both the 2008 Florida International Wine Competition and the 2007 Tasters Guild. It also received ‘Silver’ at the 2008 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
“The long growing season in 2005 gave the red fruit ample time to hang on the vine, develop sound flavors and great balance,” Peju Winemaker Sara Fowler explained. “This Merlot is big and bold and the Cabernet Sauvignon has inherited all of the quintessential characteristics that a Napa Valley Cab exemplifies – luscious body, balanced tannins and complex layers of flavor.”
