NEW FROM VALLEY OF THE MOON WINERY
One of the pleasures of wine – both in the making and in the drinking – is to try something new and find it delightful. Such is the case with the just- released 2007 Valley of the Moon Russian River Valley Unoaked Chardonnay. This is Valley of the Moon’s debut release of Unoaked Chardonnay, and in every way exceeds expectations.
Aging Chardonnay in small oak barrels is a time-honored tradition that began in France centuries ago and came to the United States in the early 1960s. However, due to climate differences, Chardonnay vines in California produce slightly fruitier wines than do those in France, and therein lies the potential of unoaked Chardonnay.

By drawing Chardonnay grapes from the cool Russian River Valley, cold-fermenting the juice in stainless steel tanks, leaving oak barrels out of the production process and bottling the young wine without allowing it to undergo malolactic fermentation, Valley of the Moon has produced an interesting unoaked Chardonnay.
Only 2,000 cases of the 2007 Valley of the Moon Russian River Valley Unoaked Chardonnay were produced; it is available nationally at a suggested retail of $16.
