CRUSH THE MOVIE!

SebastianiDON&SONS-w.GIFCRUSH,” a documentary of the 2006 wine grape harvest, will debut at the tenth annual Cinema Epicuria - the 2007 Sonoma Valley Film Festival. Produced by Napa Valley filmmaker Bret Lyman and his B. Napa studio, the 10-minute short-film will have its first showing on April 12th. The annual festival runs April 11-15 in Sonoma.

CRUSH” is a collaboration between B. Napa and Don Sebastiani & Sons (DS&S), the Sonoma and Napa-based wine negociant. Previously, Lyman has produced educational short films featured as Podcasts on the Don & Sons’ web site. A Trailer is now available on the DS&S website now! Last Fall, he approached the wine company, seeking to capture a unique representation of the annual ritual of harvest.

“Bret does an amazing job capturing all the elements that compose the ceremony of harvest – not just soil, grapes, and climate. His camera follows the hard work of the people behind the ritual – the family who runs the taco truck, the immigrant pickers who rise before the sun does, and mostly our winemaker, Richard Bruno, who spends most of September and October away from his wife and young son,” said Donny Sebastiani, company marketing director. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase this film,” Sebastiani said. “We have great respect for the amount of work that goes into our final products and what better way to show it than from the very beginning. Our intent is to give our viewers a realistic, behind-the-scenes look at the 2006 harvest, presented in a very professional, contemporary manner.”

The film will be shown at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 12, in Mia’s Lounge at the Sonoma Community Center located at 276 East Napa Street in Sonoma. Afterward, the film will be featured on the company’s web site and can be downloaded for iPod viewing through Apple’s iTunes Store®.

While “CRUSH” is the first documentary short film production sponsored by Don & Sons, the company has utilized mobile video technology in its efforts to educate its customers since last summer, when it introduced its first video Podcast. The Podcasts are designed to give retailers and consumers a glimpse into the inner workings of the company and the winemaking process, featuring interviews with winery principals and winemakers and offering a readily accessible educational component. Apple iPods are standard support equipment for each Don & Sons sales representative. “We encourage them to go out and present these films to anyone interested in learning more about our wines,” said Sebastiani. “It’s a great educational tool — and it’s easy to use.”
