G’Vine, French Gin launched by EuroWineGate
This month, Cognac, France-based EuroWineGate launched G’Vine, the first white spirit—and gin—to be distilled from grape vine flowers. According to the company, the spirit is meant to bridge the gap between gin and other flavored spirits.
“We feel that, as consumers continue to seek more flavor choices and more trade-up opportunities, it’s the perfect time to introduce a soft, mixable ultra-premium gin,” said Jean-Sébastien Robicquet, founder and master distiller of EuroWineGate. “After all, gin is the original flavored vodka.”
G’Vine is made from a grape base derived from the Ugni Blanc grape flower, which is grown in France’s Cognac region. The spirit is distilled in small batches with a blend of nine botanicals: ginger root, licorice, green cardamom, cassia bark, coriander, juniper berries, cubeb berries, nutmeg and lime. It’s then blended with the flowers of the Ugni Blanc leaves and distilled again, resulting in a unique floral flavor.
G’Vine has 40-percent alcohol-by-volume and retails for $38 a 750-ml. bottle. Though currently available only in New York and New Jersey, the spirit will roll out in Florida, Illinois and Washington, D.C., in 2007.
