Wine Industry Icon Honored With New Wine

BrotherTimothyMontCabernet-w.jpgThe Lasallian Education Fund (LEF), the West Coast educational foundation of the De la Salle Christian Brothers, released the 2004 Brother Timothy Mont La Salle Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon in honor of Brother Timothy, a pioneer in the California wine industry. The wine debuted on Brother Timothy’s birthday, November 29, just two years after he died at the age of 94.

All sales proceeds benefit the LEF to assist the San Francisco area Lasallian schools in providing quality education for low-income families.

The wine was crafted from grapes grown on the site of the original Christian Brothers winery, where Brother Timothy worked as cellar master for more than 50 years. Dave Guffy, winemaker of the Hess Collection Winery, blended 90-percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 5-percent Malbec and 5-percent Petit Verdot grapes, and aged the wine for 22 months in 100-percent French oak barrels. The full-bodied blend has cassis, licorice, cedar and herb aromas with a hint of smoke and blackberry and cassis flavors.

Just 294 cases of this highly collectible wine were produced; it retails for $94 a 750-ml. bottle and $194 a 1.5-liter bottle.
