Las Vegas and Beaulieu Vineyard Break Guinness World Record
Las Vegas Toast of the Century by BV Certified World's Largest Toast
Beaulieu Vineyard (BV), historic Napa vintner and wine sponsor of the Las Vegas Centennial Celebration, received confirmation that the Las Vegas Toast of the Century by BV on December 31, 2005, broke the world record for "largest simultaneous toast in one venue." The official certificate from Guinness World Records received on May 31, 2006, establishes the new record at 13,500 participants.
On New Year's Eve, 2005, the Mayor of Las Vegas, Oscar B. Goodman, raised a glass of Century Cellars Chardonnay by BV, and led the capacity crowd of revelers at the Fremont Street Experience in a toast to not only a new year, but also a new century for Las Vegas.
"Las Vegas knows how to throw a party and this confirms that we do it bigger and better than anyone," said Mayor Goodman, chairman of the Centennial Commission. "In addition to marking Las Vegas' place in history, breaking the Guinness World Record with BV Wines was a fitting finale to what was a phenomenal Centennial year."
The Las Vegas Toast of the Century by BV shatters the previous record of 10,079 held by a Japanese sake company. In order to qualify to break the world record, all documented participants must be led in a toast, raise their glasses in unison and drink at the same time. R&R Live, a Las Vegas-based event management company, organized the record attempt. More than 60 event staff and volunteers greeted and registered thousands of participants, checked IDs and poured more than 200 cases of the appropriately named Century Cellars Chardonnay by BV to provide samples for the toast.
"When BV became an official sponsor of the Las Vegas Centennial, we knew this presented a one-of-a-kind opportunity to celebrate the century in a very big way," said Tom Scott, Director of Public Relations, Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines. "Over 13,500 people will always remember where they were for New Years 2005 -- setting a world record and making history with BV and Las Vegas."
As an official sponsor of the Centennial celebration, The Las Vegas Toast of the Century by BV on New Year's Eve culminated a year of BV activity in support of the centennial. BV launched a Vineyard to Vegas Tour in May of 2005, paralleling the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority's Road to Vegas Tour, a nationwide concert series with multi-platinum rock group Collective Soul. The tour ended in Las Vegas in July 2005 at the official Las Vegas 100th Birthday Bash, headlined by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
