AND NOW--Michigan Permit Form Available

The State of Michigan has posted its new direct shipping permit application form and instructions...

On the Liquor Control Commission's web page. The $100 annual permit runs from May 1 to April 30 so it may be advantageous to wait until May. Excise and sales tax must be collected which will require out-of-state wineries to register with the Department of Treasury. Michigan also requires pre-sale age verification and label registration.

Editorial–worse case scenario?:

So if every state were to require a $100.00 “Permit” to ship wine into them every year? Small wineries will be putting up–every year–$5,000.00 plus on speculation they will actually ship a bottle to any one of those state.

Solution: Small wineries form shipping cooperatives which in itself still perpetuates the “A Three Tier System.”

The system seems to continuously spinning back on itself–Progress Going Backwards?
