Washington Wine Top Honor San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
Sagelands Four Corners Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Wins Double Gold and Best of Class!
Washington state wines continue to rack up accolades in wine competitions around the country. A Washington state wine, Sagelands Vineyard Four Corners Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2002, captured the Double Gold medal and Best of Class for Cabernet Sauvignon priced up to $13.99 at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. The wine won the honor in a field heavily dominated by California wines. Sagelands was one of two wines selected for Double Gold in its category, an honor bestowed to only forty wines in the entire competition
The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is the largest annual judging of American wines. Originally limited to California wines, the competition was opened to wines from Washington, Oregon and Idaho in 2005. In 2006, more than 900 wineries entered 3,318 wines, which were judged in fifty-four categories. Judges included members of the media, winemakers, wine educators and trade.
Sagelands produces distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the Four Corners region of Columbia Valley, where the Wahluke Slope, Horse Haven Hills, Rattlesnake Hills and Walla Walla Valley all converge. Each of the four areas has a particular climate and its own characteristic soils that produce intense, yet well-balanced wines. In addition, the unique soil composition makes it possible to plant vines on their own ungrafted rootstock, enhancing the true varietal character of the wines. Sagelands winemaker Frederique Spencer, a native of Provence, France, blends the best grapes from all four regions to consistently produce high quality wines that combine the best qualities of the four component regions at a great value.
Sagelands is produced by Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines, which is part of Diageo, the world's leading premium drinks business. Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines produces and markets Beaulieu Vineyard, Sterling Vineyards, the wines of The Chalone Wine Group, Sterling Vintner's Collection, Solaris, Vinavera, Archetype and Blossom Hill, as well as the French wines of Barton & Guestier. DC&E is also a leading importer of classified Bordeaux in the U.S. and F.E. Trimbach wines from Alsace. A collection of Burgundy estate-bottled wines and several other fine European wines complement the selection. Diageo's broader business includes Smirnoff Vodkas and flavored malt beverages, Guinness, Bailey's Irish Cream, Crown Royal, and Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, as well as many other of the world's leading premium drinks brands. The company is listed on both the New York Stock Exchange (DEO) and the London Stock Exchange (DGE). Please enjoy our quality responsibly.
